PART 1 - Skin cancer is on the rise

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, affecting more than 1 million people annually.

There are various types of skin cancer, each with their own degree of aggressiveness. Malignant melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and its prevalence has doubled in the past 30 years, according to the National Cancer Institute.

The non-melanoma skin cancers usually occur in people who are older than 50, but recently, an increasing number of younger people are affected, causing a significant rise in the number of cases of skin cancer in Americans.

The good news is that most skin cancers are preventable and are highly treatable and non fatal if detected early.
