The holiday season is upon us and we are looking forward to spending time with our loved ones. During this hectic season, it is especially important not to neglect your skin:

• Always drink plenty of water
• Moisturize your skin daily
• Avoid hot showers which will dry out your skin
• Get plenty of sleep
• Lower your alcohol consumption
• Despite the many distractions and a hectic calendar, stick to your daily skin care routine
• Always wear sun block outdoors, especially during those winter sport activities

GET SCREENED FOR SKIN CANCER REGULARLY

If you have many freckles, more than 50 moles, have had skin cancer, have a family history of melanoma, or have noticed a change in the appearance of any moles on your body, you should seek medical advice.

As with any cancer, early detection may not only better the outcome of treatment, but it may increase the likelihood of cure. The American Cancer Society recommends screening for skin cancer every 3 years for people between the ages of 20 and 40 and on a yearly basis for anyone older than 40. If you have been diagnosed with skin cancer or are at a high risk of developing skin cancer, consult your doctor on what is the best interval for your skin exams.
